Song Rec: When He Sees Me - Waitress
pt.2 pt.3
Main Masterlist
You go to Fukurodani and its your second year. You were going to go to Shiratorizawa, but your best friend, Wakatoshi said he didn’t think it was the best fit for you. Ouch. But you knew he meant well, and he was right.
Fukurodani has treated you well and you even befriended the school’s ace, Bokuto. He was in your grade, and recently he’s been boasting about the new first-year setter Akashi. You’ve only seen him a handful of times in school but you guys hang out a lot after school. He usually stays back with Bo to practice, Konoha too, but only sometimes.
Akashi comes to sit with you and Bo, and the rest of the VBC follows suit. “I heard Ushiwaka beat Seijoh again y/n-san.” Bokuto says.
“Yea, Toshi is dead set on nationals, and their team is strong.” You tell Bo.
He doesn’t seem too happy with this answer. “We’re strong too! We’re going to beat them at Nationals right?”
A chuckle escapes you as the boys hum in response to the ace. “The strong are the strong, Bo.” This is something Wakatoshi has drilled into your head.
The two of you haven’t spoken much recently, due to a sort of awkwardness that has ensued around you. It’s your fault, you really shouldn’t have said anything. You should have kept it to yourself and kept it moving, but Kenma had convinced you to get it over with. Or in his words:
“Stop being a pussy, just go for it y/n, and if he doesn’t he feel the same, then it’s his loss.” He said still looking at his PSP.
It was your first training camp and you easily befriended the first-year from Nekoma. Along with their amazing second-year libero.
Yaku came from around the corner and encouraged you as well. “Yes y/n-san! You’re the most gorgeous person, so obviously why wouldn’t he love you too.”
Unfortunately for you, that’s not at all how it turned out.
...
You had Kenma and Yaku help you come up with a narrative, which was edited by the ever poetic Akashi himself. You left Fukurodani as soon as the bell rang to head over to Shiratorizawa before Toshi had practice.
Once you got there, you were greeted by a tall red-head. Toshi was never too vocal about his teammates, but you did know this one. “Hi, Tendo right?”
“Do I know you?” He looked at you up and down.
The guy was intimidating already, but his height just added to that. “Um, I’m a friend of Wakatoshi, y/n. He’s talked about you.”
His face immediately lights up. “Really! He talks about me??” He makes and O-shape with his mouth. “You’re his childhood friend y/n, yea? He should be coming back from his run any moment now.”
You and Tendo talk for a bit outside till Toshi shows up, and just like Tendo said, he comes back from his jog and blinks a couple times at you.
“Why are you here, y/n?” His straightforwardness still catches you off guard most of the time, so that stung a little.
Nevertheless, you put on your big boy pants and went for it. “Tendo can you give me and Toshi a second.”
He agreed and walked back into the gym (he was still watching from afar). “Why did you send him away?”
Your hands were shaky as you attempted to continue. “I just wanted to tell you... we’ve been friends for a long time, and I know it’s out of the blue, but I’ve liked you ever since we were kids. You’re my favorite person to be around, even if you are a bit dense and I genuinely care for you with everything I have.” At the end, you breathed in. “So if you would kindly accept my confession, there’s this carnival in town right now, if you’d like to go this some time this month-”
“No.”
To be honest, you were hoping this would turn out differently, and that he’d be a bit gentler. You’d be a fool to think that, you knew him better than anyone. “Do you want to go somewhere else?”
“No. I do not wish to go with you as a date.” At least he’s transparent, you think to yourself. “I do not feel that way for you, y/n. I am sorry.”
This was the most sympathetic Ushijima you’d ever get, but you still wanted to cry nonetheless. “That’s ok Toshi, I understand.” You flash him a smile to let him now it’s ok.
“We are still friends, y/n.”
You nod. “Yea, we are.”
...
That was Tuesday, and it is now Friday.
Needless to say, you were not talking to Toshi right now because you were too embarrassed to face him at the moment. He hasn’t texted you either because he’s just not the type to reach out. You know him well enough to understand he’s not avoiding you on purpose, and you’re thankful that he’s so focused on volleyball that he won’t notice you’ve stepped away from him.
Your ace has.
As aloof as Bokuto may seem to most, he’s still very in-touch with the people he cares about’s feelings, and Bokuto adores you. Literally, whole-heartedly believes you could do no wrong ever, you’re too precious.
He sees you alone on the bleachers, mindlessly looking over and editing Fukurodani’s score sheet. After they finish their last set, he comes over to you and sits down with you. “Y/n, is something wrong?” He puts an arm over your shoulders, pulling you closer to him.
You really appreciate Bokuto’s constant need for affection, whether it be verbally or physically. It contrasted Toshi immensely, and you loved Bo’s personality. “It’s nothing, Bo.”
There’s no way he’d let this go, and you knew that better than anyone. “Really, Y/n. What is it? I want to help you in any way I can! I am at your service!” He does a little bow then focuses back on you. Bokuto’s not sure when this constant need to be around you started.
For some reason, ever since you’ve entered his life, he does not want to know what it’s like to be without you anymore. He’s made it his duty to take care of you and make you feel as special as you make him feel on a daily. “I just... asked Toshi to go to the fair with me and he said no.”
You pout and Bokuto swears he’ll die from how cute you look doing that. “Go with me, y/n.” He says it so nonchalantly you have to do a double-take. “Go on a date with me to the fair.” He flashes you one of his comforting smiles and you’re stunned.
“W-what?”
He just continues on asking. “Please go with me? You’re the most generous and amazing person, not to mention you’re a killer manager.” Bo beams at you with this glint in his eyes, mesmerizing you. “I know that you like Ushiwaka, but I’d really love it if you’d go with me.” You hadn’t said anything for a while and he was starting to worry. “I’m sorry, I can invite Kashi if you want, and everybody el-“
“No.” You tell him and he’s so close to going emo mode, but doesn’t want to make you feel like you have to go with him. “I’ll go with you Bo.” You smile at him and he just stops working. “Bo?”
He comes back to and holds your face in his hands. “We will have the best time at the fair, I promise!” Bokuto kisses the backs of your hands before rushing out of the gym. Once he’s at the gym doors, he turns around to see you again. “I promise!” Then he’s gone.
If there was one thing about Bokuto that you had to love, is that he was a caring friend through and through. That and he makes you laugh all the time with his silly antics, and despite his mood swings during games or practices, or even in school, he’s still the most reliable person you knew.
You were excited for tomorrow.
...
In pure Bokuto fashion, he picks you up from your house wearing some khakis, a black shirt, and some nice black running shoes. As a gentleman would, he brought you your favorite flowers and ferrero rocher which you loved. You left them in the house and decided to eat them with him on the way back.
You were wearing some plain flats, loose jeans, and a flower blouse that had ruffles on the cuffs. “You look gorgeous y/n!” Bokuto beams. He was always one to say what was on his mind, unfiltered.
“Thank you for picking me up, Bo, and for the gift, I liked them very much.” You smile at him.
“We’re gonna have a great time y/n! After that we’ll go to this restaurant a friend recommended me.” He is so pumped to spend time with you today he seems perkier than ever to you.
As promised, Bokuto pays for your tickets and you go on all the rides you can get to. Akashi doesn’t like rides because they made him queasy, and the rest of the team decided to have a game-night and go tomorrow on Sunday.
Despite the fact that it was just the two of you, there was never a dull moment and you were almost always laughing; either at what he said or did. Even if Bokuto was as graceful as he was on the court, he is terribly clumsy with direction and gets lost a lot of the time.
Even so, you couldn’t have asked for someone better to go with. The two of you take your funnel cakes on the ferris wheel to chill out from the fast rides you went on previously. “Thank you so much for coming with me Bokuto-san.”
He nods eagerly with funnel cake in his mouth. “I’ll gwo anywhere wif you y/n.” You couldn’t help but chuckle at him. Bo looks down as you guys finally get to the top of the ride and the cart jerks a bit. Immediately he sits back down. “Y/n we’re gonna die.”
“No we’re not Bo, give me your hand, ok?” He hands it over, both of you placing down your sweets. You scoot a little closer and look out at the view. “Look there, we might be far away from the ground, but we’ve got the best view!”
You were right, and Bokuto relaxed and holds his hands out circling the sun. “Y/n, can we do this again sometime?”
“Of course, Bo.” You didn’t want to play with his feelings, but you didn’t want to be dishonest either. “Bo, I love you, really I do, but I don’t think I feel that way for you.” Mainly, you didn’t want to get hurt again.
You thought his mood was gonna change, but that was quite the opposite. “I know I’m a handful y/n, but I really want to be the one you like. We can go slow, or we can endure awkward family dinners together-” you broke out laughing, “anything as long as you’re by my side y/n. I know I can get you to fall for me I just know it.”
“A a little cocky are we young ace?” You raise an eyebrow at Bokuto.
He just flexes his muscles and winks at you. “I like to call it determination.” You giggle at Bokuto’s antics and before you know it, you guys are already at the bottom of the ride
The worker lets you both out and you’re all smiles and googly eyes at one another. “Y/n! Hi!” You turn to see Tendo approaching you with Toshi carrying some drinks and food. “We were gonna surprise you, but you weren’t answering and we couldn’t find you anywhere.” Tendo turns to Bo and points. “Who is this?” Tendo was pulling his leg, thinking he’d boast about being the ace.
Bokuto puffs his chest out at the middle blocker, “I’m y/n’s bestest friend, who are you?”
Both of them raise eyebrows at each other. “No you are not.” You and Bokuto’s faces go blank as you turn to Wakatoshi. “Y/n is my friend.” Tendo feints hurt and you laugh awkwardly.
“I can have more than one friend Toshi.” You say with a chuckle. “Tendo and Toshi I’m sure you guys remember Bo.” They both nod and Tendo has a little smile on his face.
“Why haven’t you talked to me recently y/n?” Toshi, ever discreet.
“I’ve just been busy, you know you can text me too, right?” Tendo and Bokuto walk to a table to give you two some time to talk. Bo squeezes your hand before he leaves and Tendo takes the snacks,
Toshi thinks for a moment. “You are right. Are you upset that I didn’t return your feelings?”
You just want to die of embarrassment. “No Toshi. I’m not upset, I’m just embarrassed.” You hang your head.
“I am sorry. You do not need to be.” He doesn’t really know what to do, and he’s already struggling with the right words.
In this moment you realize how different he and Bokuto are, and maybe you do need someone who understands you for once. You’ve always done your best to accommodate to Toshi, but you feel it’s just been one-sided. You love Toshi, and you’ve never done anything for him and expected something back, you’re not like that. You just wished he took the time to understand you a little more. You know it’s hard for him, but even just a little effort. You’ve both grown into this habit, so it was really both your faults.
Maybe you needed to close this door.
Maybe you needed to let him go.
“It’s alright Toshi. I promise, I’ll get over you soon, and we can go back to how we were. I’m sorry if I’ve made you uncomfortable.”
Wakatoshi isn’t sure what it is, but he feels this weird cinch in his chest, causing a lump to form in his throat. “Is it because of Fukurodani’s ace?” Sometimes, I wish he wasn’t as blunt, you think, but that’s also what you like about him: he’s honest to a fault.
“I think so, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Bokuto is a good person and he takes care of me.” He nods and you smile at him. “I’ll see you soon, Toshi. Bo and I are going to eat dinner now.” He nods again and you give him a hug. Ushijima hugs you back, something he rarely ever does and you’re stunned, but you appreciate it nonetheless. “Bye Toshi,” you wave goodbye to the ace and walk away with Bokuto, arms linked as you laugh at how Bokuto grew annoyed at the red-haired middle blocker. You just knew they would get under each other’s skin.
Tendo walks up to Ushijima who’s still watching you fade away into the crowd. “What’s up Miracle boy?” He slaps a hand on his shoulder, but he remains unmoving.
“I do not know.”
Tendo snickers at his friends and puts an arm around him. “I think the word you’re looking for is jealous. You’re jealous Wakatoshi-kun.”
He keeps a stoic face and turns his attention to his teammate. “No I am not.”
“Yes you are.”
“No I am not.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Think about it Wakatoshi-kun!” Tendo starts this elaborate explanation, if anyone knew him, it was Tendo. Ever patient and kind, Tendo. “Y/n confesses, you say no. She stops talking to you, you wonder why she’s not texting you. You decide to try to find her at the carnival, she’s here with another man, heck, another ace. Then she tells you she’s getting over you!” Tendo is absolutely taken back with how blind Wakatoshi is, but he’s patient with him. “I don’t know what you feel for y/n-chan, you have to figure that out on your own, but I think you better hurry up and figure it out before Fukurodani’s ace successfully sweeps her away.”
Ushijima didn’t want that. “I am going to tell her to stop seeing him.”
He whips out his phone but Tendo is quick. “No, Wakatoshi-kun. You can’t do that just because he bothers you. You can only do that if you like her back.”
That was going to be a problem.
He had no idea what he felt.
...

The fandom you're in looks really awesome, and the reason I followed you is it the cooler that comes with it, but I have no idea what it's about or what the actual game is? Is there a place I can go to kind of find out and maybe play myself? (You're so passionate about it that I'm starting to get really curious but google is my enemy)
I’m GUESSING you mean fate series cause that’s my number one thing I do not shut up about. it’s uhh kind of a spiraling mess of a series but most installments are standalone enough for it to not be a complete hell to get into, but also I’m glad you asked because getting in without help is definitely hell
fate started with the visual novel fate/stay night, written by kinoko nasu and released in 2004. as such that’s the best starting point in my opinion, because it features all the detailed worldbuilding groundwork that later installments kind of gloss over so it can be hard to go back to if you already know all that from other installments. the plot is that seven magi summon legendary heroes to fight for them in a ritual war, with the prize being the holy grail which can grant any wish. leading themes are what it means to be a hero and save someone, the way history repeats itself, and forming your own identity in the wake of trauma. it has three routes, the last of which especially has really heavy themes of physical emotional and sexual abuse so if you need detailed content warnings pm me and I’ll do my best
fsn has several releases, the original vn features infamously bad erotica but there’s a rerelease called fate/stay night [realta nua] which replaced those scenes with pg-15 content and also tightened the visuals up a bit. I’ve got downloads for both versions here. it’s like 80 hours of vn so that’s quite the investment but there’s also the anime fate/stay night [unlimited blade works] featuring the second route, and the third route is getting a series of movies the first of which is out too, called heaven’s feel - presage flower. fate route (the first route) sort of got an anime in 2006 and unlimited blade works a movie in 2010 but those are really really bad so look for the 2014 anime and 2017 movie. imo the ubw anime did a decent job and heaven’s feel is doing pretty good too so far so they’re good for seeing if you like what the series has to offer before you dive into a long ass vn.
the prequel to fate/stay night is fate/zero, a light novel series written by gen urobuchi in collaboration with nasu. as such it’s notably darker than the rest of the series but by nature of being a prequel it makes for an equally decent starting point as stay night, since both will spoil things for the other. fate/zero has an anime too.
imo stay night and zero are the ‘standard fate installments, if someone says they like fate you can safely assume they’ve consumed at least one of those - is what I used to say but apparently it’s been so long that even this isn’t a reasonable assumption anymore. oh how times have changed. anyway please do start with zero or stay night cause like I said those are earlier installments so they’re at high risk of falling flat if you already know the deep lore from later stuff.
the biggest most booming fate installment is fate/grand order, a mobile game featuring characters from all other fates as well as a lot of newcomers. it’s pretty newbie friendly in terms of lore I think but you’ll get more out of it if you do know the background for all these characters since character development tends to carry over between installments. it’s infamously story heavy for a mobile game, especially in the later chapters when nasu got the hang of writing for mobage. the tone is also notably different from fsn and fz in that it’s more…. grandiose and theatrical, and obviously it waifs everyone up a bit so they can get you to spend money. still good tho. still love it. it’s got two anime specials, first order and moonlight lostroom, but first order makes no damn sense if you don’t know anything of stay night and lostroom takes place after the events of the first fgo arc. there’s anime projects of two of the chapters in progress too.
you thought that was all? you’re a fool this isn’t even half of it but I’ll briefly go over the rest under a cut cause those 3 are the big players.
carnival phantasm is a comedy OVA series featuring skits about several works from the same author. about half of it is about fate and the other about tsukihime, an earlier visual novel. watching order is after stay night. today’s menu for the emiya family is the canon domestic fsn au manga and anime where everyone’s just chilling eating dinner together instead of killing each other.
fate/hollow ataraxia is another visual novel. it’s a direct sequel to fate/stay night and a personal favourite. it takes place half a year after stay night and features much of the same themes, but from a pair of characters who lost the war in fsn before it even started.
fate/apocrypha is another series of light novels. in terms of reading order i’d put it after stay night and zero. it features a cast twice as big as those two and basically approaches the same themes from a different angle. it’s got a finished anime and an ongoing manga but the anime kinda butchered pretty much everything about it. unfortunately one of the light novels is still not translated so the anime is still the most accessible way to get approximately the whole story. the manga IS very good though so once that’s finished I’d probably tell people to read that one if they want to apocrypha
fate/EXTRA is a psp game it’s like 10 bucks in the ps store iirc. for reading order I’d put it after stay night but not necessarily after zero. in this one the ritual for the holy grail is held in a simulation on the moon, which is a supercomputer, and it’s an organised tournament with 128 participants instead of a 7 man free for all. it’s about forging meaningful bonds in a system designed to drive people apart and finding the drive to keep going even if nothing is certain. the gameplay isn’t great but the story is $$$ it’s my other personal favourite. it’s sequel is called fate/EXTRA CCC, it’s on psp too but never got a western release, but there’s a translation of one route out there and some madmen are working on a translation patch that’ll be done in time for my grandchildren I hope. CCC is the wildest ride of my life i love it a lot but it’s very horny so not really for everyone. fate/extra CCC fox tail is a manga which follows an alternate CCC route and i hear it’s cool. the sequel to CCC is fate/EXTELLA which did come to the west and is on several platforms, and somewhere next year fate/EXTELLA link should get localised. extella is very rushed and mostly expands the extraverse world but if you can grab it on sale after you decided you like extra it’s not a bad buy just don’t pay full price. fate/EXTRA last encore is an anime which. sort of comes after extra? it’s very trippy arthouse bullshit and I ate that shit up but it’s definitely not for everyone. the last 3 episodes are missing on netflix so make sure you don’t miss those if you decide to watch.
fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ☆ ILLYA is a magical girl spinoff manga & anime which sounds great in theory until you see it’s mostly pedobait, but extremely unfortunately for us sometimes it does something legitimately cool so we all suffer. don’t get into prillya it’s bad for your health.
fate/strange fake WAS an aprils fools story but this series has no limits so now it’s a full on light novel spinoff and also manga I think? I don’t keep up with it but it throws some wild ass lore our way sometimes. you’ll probably want to be up to date with apocrypha and everything before it before you try this one.
fate/prototype was just the original concept for fsn extrapolated a bit upon but again this series has no limits. prototype has an animated feature and some material books, and then the light novels fate/prototype fragments of blue and silver are the prequel to prototype, but it’s weird cause we never got a proper prototype so I don’t know what’s up with that. fate/labyrinth is a side story to fragments which I know even less about. I actually never see anyone talk about prototype so there’s probably no translations lol
lord el melloi II case files is even more light novels. I’m pretty sure you need to have gone over stay night, zero, hollow ataraxia, apocrypha, and strange fake before this one starts to make sense. there might be translations? i don’t know a fucking thing my guy

OMG TYSM FOR THE TAG!!!!
love letters
love to you is sitting down for an hour and unleashing your heart onto a page, and once you're done you fill the envelope with a daisy from when you strolled the park last week and a carnival ticket from last night. and then you finally seal it with a personalized stamp. your an open beating heart begging to be held in someone's forgiving palms. you're sweet to your core and have a flair of extravagance. you wear your heart on your sleeve, ‘cause who doesn't want to shout their love from the top of rooftops. you dream of soulmates and happy endings, sometimes to your detriment. you can tend to exaggerate and lose touch with reality, so be wary of how you make people out to be in your head. you have a gentle heart, be careful with it.

Katsuya Terada / 寺田 克也 - Part 1: 1987-1993 http://cacazan.com/ http://katsuyaterada.tumblr.com/ https://www.facebook.com/katsuya.terra.terada Terada has worked on about 50 games in the past 30 years. He became famous in the West in the early 2000s with the release of the movie Blood: The Last vampire for which he designed the main characters, his cover girls and his huge artbook "Rakugaking". Paradoxically, nowadays , outside of Japan, his name is more often attached to the Zelda series, one of his earliest works -- from 1989 to 1995, he was a regular contributor to the North American magazine Nintendo Power for which he did many artworks, including illustrations for Link's Awakening and A Link to the Past. On a related note, some of his Link's Awakening artworks seem to be exclusive to the official German player's guide. Games pictured above: 1) Tantei Jingūji Saburō - Shinjuku Chūō Kōen Satsujin Jiken / 探偵神宮寺三郎 新宿中央公園殺人事件 (FDS - 1987) 2-5) Sorcerian System Scenario Vol. 2: Sengoku Sorcerian / 戦国ソーサリアン (PC-88 - 1988) 6) Tantei Jingūji Saburō - Yokohama-kō Renzoku Satsujin Jiken / 探偵 神宮寺三郎 横浜港 連続殺人事件 (Famicom - 1988) Tantei Jingūji Saburō - Kiken na Futari Zenpen / 探偵神宮寺三郎 危険な二人 前編 (FDS - 1988) Tantei Jingūji Saburō - Kiken na Futari Kōhen / 探偵神宮寺三郎 危険な二人 後編 (FDS - 1989) Tantei Jingūji Saburō - Toki no Sugiyuku Mama ni... Zoku Bishin Densetsu Zoku / Zoku: The Legend of Bishin (SFC - 1993) Games he has worked on: Note: I omited a few games such as Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection, Culdcept II: Expansion and Culdcept 3DS which reuse designs/card illustrations from earlier games.

To be confirmed: Lunatic Dawn / ルナテックドーン (illustration featured in Zenbu, probably a fanart) Marvel Trading Card Game (DS, Windows, PSP - 2007) maybe the game reuses pre-existent illustrations Optical Axis / オプティカル アクシス (line art dated 1992, not sure if it's a game)
I don't know if Terada has worked on the Tantei Jingūji Saburō series since the PS2 episodes, apart from the recent 3DS game for which he created the main illustration. Of course, since he designed the main characters of the series, he is probably credited in some if not all of these games.
